The Normandy region in northwestern France offers something for the whole family, as long as huge theme parks are not a necessary condition for a holiday.
While the parents enjoy the villages full of charm, the beautiful landscapes, the historical sites and the fine food, the children enjoy an action-packed vacation that includes rafting on the rivers, horseback riding, spending time on the beaches and lots of activities in the surrounding nature. And if that's not enough - Paris (and Disneyland for those who can not give up dizzying roller coasters) is a short drive away and you can combine a visit to the city before or after your holiday in Normandy.
Not to be missed: Claude Monet's house in Gibrani, surrounded by spectacular gardens that inspired the artist's paintings, the landing beaches where the Allies landed in World War II, and of course - the island of Mont Saint-Michel, famous for its tides. Beyond all this the rope is studded with charming towns, where, especially on weekends, unique markets take place.
There are also many ancient castles, whose visit captivates the hearts of children and adults alike. For families, the nature of Normandy is a major attraction. Not to be missed is a visit to the area of Le Roche d-Oetre, known as Norman Switzerland, whose beautiful scenery invites you to go hiking, cycling and horse riding and river cruising. In addition, Normandy has wonderful forests for hiking or picnicking, such as the Foret Grimbosq Forest where hiking trails, a lake and play facilities. And finally, Normandy has a long strip of beach with golden and clean beaches that are suitable for recreation, bathing or just collecting shells.
Special for children:
The Cerza Zoo and Safari, the Pastiland theme park, a small and pleasant amusement park with an especially large supply of facilities for small children, the indoor water park Aquatic Center Falaise which is especially suitable for rainy days and more. Not to be missed are the charming Miniature Railway Museum in Clécy, and the Vendura Castle surrounded by impressive gardens, including water gardens with a variety of fountains and waterfalls and two plant mazes.
Tip: Along with country cottages and family pensions, the Normandy region has a large variety of unconventional accommodations that will delight the whole family - from ancient castles to wooden houses that stand at the tops of the trees. Camping enthusiasts will enjoy lodging in tents hanging from the treetops at Woody Park Adventure Park.
